Downtown Van’s retail corridors experienced a significant decline in daily visits at the start of the pandemic in 2020, with a decrease of up to 71%.
The recovery of visitors downtown was slow and hindered by COVID-19 waves and subsequent lockdowns. However, in 2021, there was an average monthly recovery of 64% compared to 2019. The recovery became stronger in 2022, with average monthly visitors reaching 85% of 2019 volumes.
