Chef Rob Feenie, a celebrated figure in the culinary world, shares insights into his journey, his restaurant, and his vision for the future.
Born and raised in Burnaby, Rob has dedicated his life to the art of cooking and has been doing so since his early 20’s. “It’s my life’s passion, throughout my career, everything has been about food,” he reflects. His extensive culinary adventures have taken him around the globe, from France and New York to Japan and back to Canada. With accolades that include winning both Iron Chef America and Iron Chef Canada, his credentials are as impressive as his dishes.
Rob has worked on and off in downtown Vancouver for decades, and most recently since the opening of his own restaurant – Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie earlier this year. “Downtown Vancouver is all about the community and people,” he shares. “There is an energy that is unique to other neighbourhoods.” This vibrant atmosphere, filled with a mix of visitors, workers, and residents, creates a lively backdrop for his restaurant. He cherishes the familiar faces of returning guests, highlighting the restaurant’s centrally located location.
Serving contemporary French cuisine, Le Crocodile embodies his “vision and the rich culinary traditions of Alsace and beyond.” The ever-evolving menu is a showcase of Rob’s passion for food and the inspiration drawn from the finest local ingredients, allowing diners to experience the beautiful diversity of British Columbia and Canada through each dish.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Rob finds joy in the little moments. “Watching the new restaurant come to life and each time a guest leaves happy are two of the key highlights for me,” he shares. Despite the challenges of the restaurant industry, the ability to connect with guests who appreciate the fine dining experience makes every effort worthwhile for him. Looking ahead, Rob is excited about what lies ahead for Le Crocodile and downtown Vancouver. “I look forward to continuing to serve great contemporary French food in the heart of downtown Vancouver,” he says. He also appreciates the efforts of Downtown Van in fostering community spirit through engaging events.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie invites you to experience the essence of contemporary French cuisine in a vibrant downtown setting. In the words of Rob, “there is so much to enjoy in our city.” Come and discover it for yourself at Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie located at 909 Burrard St!
