Scotiabank Dance Centre opened in Downtown Vancouver in 2001.
This beautiful building is one of Canada’s flagship dance facilities, providing a creative hub in the downtown core.
Spearheaded and managed by the not-for-profit resource organization The Dance Centre, the building welcomes tens of thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds every year, who take classes and attend performances and events. It is a thriving creative centre, where professional dance artists create, rehearse and perform.
Scotiabank Dance Centre has six bright studios, an intimate and flexible 154-seat black box theatre, a canopied rooftop patio, a meeting room, and office space.
INSPIRING A DIVERSE COMMUNITY
From ballet, contemporary, tap, classical Indian and Highland, to flamenco, hip hop, Hawaiian, salsa, K-pop, Japanese, and other styles, every genre of dance takes place within the studios.
The Dance Centre’s extensive activities, including artist residencies, performances, workshops, and outreach programs for youth and seniors, are hosted at the facility. The studios, theatre and board room are rented by a wide range of artists and arts organizations, and also by businesses and individuals for meetings, filming and photoshoots, and special events such as receptions and weddings.
A CULTURAL HUB
After more than twenty years, Scotiabank Dance Centre’s core goals remain: to offer high quality, affordable studios for artists in an increasingly expensive city, and to provide a space for people of all backgrounds to experience dance. The building offers multiple benefits for the community – enhancing engagement, health, and creativity, and contributing to a vibrant civic culture and thriving downtown scene.
