Alberni Street Banners

Meet Anais Lera, the artist behind the new banners on Alberni St!

Anais Lera is a French visual artist currently living in Vancouver. Originally from the South of France, she spent her childhood between the mountains and the ocean. As a kid with a passion for biology, she explored her surroundings with a microscope —a playful study that has profoundly shaped her artistic practice. She likes to describe her work as sitting at the intersection of illustration and design and specializing in vibrant and intricate otherworldly ecosystems, toeing the border of science and fiction. Her portfolio contains vivid, intricate compositions filled with flora and fauna from beyond the earth’s dimension and she’s interested in projects that centre around themes of nature and exploration.

Granville Street Banners

Meet Sandeep Johal, the artist behind the new banners on Granville St!

Sandeep is a Canadian visual artist, advocate, and leader whose practice engages drawing, collage, textiles, and large-scale murals. Through her Indo-folk feminine aesthetic, she confronts themes of bleakness, despair and ugliness with their dissonant opposites: brightness, hope and beauty. Her work typically centers around the stories of women and while she highlights female suffering in its many forms, these are ultimately stories of resistance and resilience.
