Refill Road might just be downtown Vancouver’s most eco-friendly store.

Since 2022, downtown Vancouver has been home to Refill Road, a zero waste “refillery” focused on reducing single-use plastic waste. According to owner Sandra Treto, their mission is to “help people become more conscious of their consumption habits.” They achieve this by offering bulk refills on everyday essentials like soap and shampoo, catering not only to individuals but also to other businesses.

Step inside the store and you’ll discover a wide variety of products, ranging from handcrafted body care items to household essentials, all aimed at helping you achieve a zero-waste lifestyle. Refill Road prioritizes accessibility, ensuring that their products don’t break the bank while minimizing the environmental footprint.“From selling at local markets to establishing a permanent retail location, the journey has been incredible,” Sandra shares. “We’ve built a strong community of customers who share our passion for sustainability.”

At Refill Road, actions speak louder than words. They actively engage with their suppliers to advocate against single-use plastics in packing to further reduce waste. In fact, when you order online, they take extra measures to ensure the packaging they use to ship your products is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and plastic-free whenever and wherever possible. If you do receive any packaged materials that aren’t “eco-friendly,” it’s because they’re reusing those materials from something else they’ve received along the way.
