Born in Tianjin, China, a city known for its unique flavours and some of the country’s best steamed buns, Paul moved to Saskatchewan, Canada with his parents when he was six years old.
“My parents started hospitality businesses in Regina and I’ve been helping them out for as long as I can remember,” says Paul. “I came to Vancouver for school in 2002, fell in love with the city and never left.” He’s since worked with restaurants in the downtown Vancouver area over the past 11 years.
“I love the people, community, cultural diversity and walkability of the downtown core. For me, it’s a great gathering place for everyone.” Located on West Pender, Heritage Asian Eatery opened its doors in 2016. “Our location being surrounded by hotels and offices, we get a chance to interact with people from a wide range of places. I enjoy the different perspectives, ideas, culture and lifestyle this brings.”
As a casual and communal spot for locals and tourists alike, Heritage Asian Eatery offers Asian comfort food paired with a curated wine and beer menu.
Sharing his Chinese heritage through food and seeing how it can bring people together, both staff and guests, has been a major highlight of running his business. “Our goal is always focused on great service and food, and this standard is set by the incredible people I have the privilege of working with.” Paul further added “the core of the business is hospitality for guests which only becomes a reality when we work with great people. Ultimately, the business is all about people.”
